In the massive coffee scene in Belfast there are a couple of establishments that really stand out, but I’d say Kaffe O would probably be one of my favorites.
Before I get into detail about these guys, I just want to clarify one thing: the coffee scene isn’t an Italian thing; so please, “coffee experts”, stick your supposedly Italian chains up your a** because that ain’t Italian at all, even if the quality isn’t the sh*ttiest.
Now, Kaffe O is a Danish inspired cafe (well, they have a couple of places, so let’s call it chain) that offers very high quality coffee and fairly good food in a nice super casual atmosphere with a cool design. I don’t know if they still do it, but the first time I visited I could actually pick a record from a pile of vinyls and just play anything I wanted. They have a very good list of menu choices and there’s stuff for any taste: if you’re lactose intolerant, caffeine worried, vegan, kryptonian or whatever, but maybe not Neapolitan, you’ll find something you’ll be able to drink or eat. The last time I was there I got a pretentious (by me) decaf oat milk mocha that was so good I had to get a second one (they offered free WiFi so I could hang for a while anyway). In the meantime I had to deal with witnessing an annoyed (and annoying) lady who was bothered by the presence of a couple of playful but totally quiet little dogs: it’s a dog friendly place so f***ing live with it, woman! My favorite Kaffe O is the Ormeau Road one, but Botanic is fine too and the little kiosk in the city centre is handy if you just want a take away hot drink.
